No ordinary person is able to pass a triathlon distance.

That may be the case regarding the Ironman distance – 3.8 km swimming, 180 km biking and 42.195 km running. In order to pass the longest distance it is necessary to excercise thoroughly for a really long time. It is more reasonable to start competing in shorter distances according to the current physical shape.

Triathlon is self-torture.

This can be said about every sports event that is not excercised using the right techniques, taking into account the present physical shape and abilities of the athlete. Consulting experts and examining your condition at a sports doctor every now and then will prevent the body from overstraining. Training according to individual abilities is a truly important matter. It is very inadvisable to follow a friend’s fast-paced workouts during trainings or use inconvenient equipment (e.g wrong sized bike).

4 hour long trainings spend most of my life.

8 hour long workdays also do. Above all, triathlon is a healthy way of living, accompanied by well-advised daily training routines, quality rest periods and conscious nutrition.

Triathlon requires loads of expensive equipment.

It is a fact that gear is needed for all three disciplines. Undoubtedly the biggest expense concerns buying a bike, however, during the first couple of years it is entirely possible to train and compete with a previously used bike. Running shoes should be changed for a newer pair at least once a year, keeping in mind that often the last year’s models that don’t differ from the newest models by quality (some differences in the colour combinations may occur) are half-prized. A calypso is an essential component of equipment for swimming in open-water conditions in Estonia, but it surely won’t be a problem to borrow it from a fellow member for at least during the first season.
